Denizens of Florida are champions at concealment. Army commandos or Navy Seal skills would come in at a pretty poor second in any contest. Animals, birds and insects are masters at camouflage.
Bright green iguanas freeze in the grass, invisible. Turtles pose as large rocks against the bank. Squirrel fur is a blend of brown and gray, perfect for fading against the trunk of a tree. Anoles sport reddish brown and green coloring, becoming one with the rocks and brush. Fish and insects may be striped, spotted or mottled, their appearances constructed to allow them to disappear at will. Dusty brown birds disappear when scratching in the dirt.
Only humans stick out, foreigners in the landscape. We only excel at hiding our true feelings–and our hearts.
