Like hummingbirds and certain people, dragonflies never stay in one place – they’re impossible to pin down. Here in SW Florida, these insects sport a solid color, not like the iridescent, multi-shaded hovering beauties I used to admire in Minnesota. The southern variety are, in essence, red, green, blue or brown vacuum feeders on tiny insects.
Dragonflies, like hummingbirds, maintain a laser-like focus on eating to sustain their constant motion. Such a frenetic lifestyle makes it impossible to form attachments or leave anyone behind to mourn their passing. Their fate is a solitary life and lonely death.
